Europe 2023 - Days 1 & 2

We left Merna at a little after eight and arrived after parking her car at the Hyatt at the airport at about 11:15am.

To our surprise Swiss Airlines did not check in baggage until at 11:30.

After checking on our baggage, we went to the Swiss Lounge and had snacks until it was time to board our plane.

We were in business class with lay flat seats so the next nine hours of flight was very easy. They served us a wonderful dinner just after we left, and two hours before we landed, they served us, breakfast.

We took a we took an Uber to the Zurich Marriott at 6:30am and they had a room ready for us so we checked in and made our way to the Old Town Zurich where we had an 11 o’clock tour of the old city.

This is a vibrant part of Zurich and we really enjoyed out tour.

We then had a nice lunch, and then took an Uber to the Lindt chocolate factory, where we spent several hours, taking a tour and eating and eating and eating chocolate! We also were able to take some chocolate home as souvenirs

Dinner at the restaurathat night was just fine, and we finally made it back to our room at about 10 o’clock.

While we were able to sleep a little on the plane, we had been up a long time.

On day two we got up lat, very late and walked about a half mile to the funicular rail, taking us up the side of a steep hill to the University, which had an amazing view.

The University was just very different.  Everybody and everything was neat and clean and respectful.

Then we went back in the Old City and had lunch and went to  strange church.  Outside of the church was an area that thad signs no women and children allowed   Then the church was filled with strange pictures of naked people. and not even well done.

After we left that area, we took a wonderful hour and a half boat ride on Lake Zurich.  Along the shores, were great homes and lots of sail boats and also people swimming from their docks.

We found the food in Zurich to be good but it was just ok.

We found Zurich to be friendly, very friendly, virtually no crime and very beautiful. The Old Town is an amazing place to be and we had dinner there twice. There are many, many restaurants and bars lining the sidewalks and people outside just enjoying each other.  It was just a wonderful two days. We have said numerous times we’ve been in some wonderful cities but we would not live there.

In Zurich, we were both enamored with the city and we could live here.  Thanks David K for giving us some advice about Switzerland.

Tomorrow we leave on the 9:00an train to Zermatt to see the Matterhorn - that should be fun.
